International College of Management, Sydney Profile

The International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) provides both management and vocational training for the Business Services Industry with approximately 700 students enrolled from 60 countries around the globe. ICMS is the largest private residential college in tourism education in the southern hemisphere.

In association with its strategic partners ICMS offers 12 programs across 5 disciplines including Hospitality, International Tourism, Event Management, Property Services Management, Retail Services Management and International Business Management at the undergraduate and postgraduate degree level.

Our College

The International College of Management, Sydney was established in 1996 and has a proven track record of preparing young men and women from around the world for successful careers within their selected profession. 

With tourism, hospitality, property and retail set to become the world's largest industries, the college is preparing students for active roles in all strata of management, by equipping graduates with the practical and academic skills necessary to succeed at every level in an increasingly competitive environment.

It is College policy to provide students with the best educators and as such we have formed strategic alliances with:

The College has also forged and maintains close links with the industry to ensure that the theory and methodologies taught keep abreast with, and even anticipate, the changes that occur within the industry. Industry training, industry lectures and tours are an integral and essential part of the curricula.

Since the first intake of sixty students in 1996, annual enrolments have grown and now exceed seven hundred, involving students over sixty countries.

Our Campus

The historic site of the College has been a venue for academic pursuits for more than a century. Situated on Manly's North Head, it affords sweeping views over Manly and the Northern Beaches and Sydney Harbour to the south-east.

Facilities are state-of-the-art with theory classrooms equipped with wireless networking and AV equipment, computer laboratories with access to current management systems software, e-mail and internet access. Cutting edge information technology systems enable students to access lecturer notes twenty-four hours a day, access timetables and all academic and practical dialogue between students and lecturers.

The College also has an international hotel standard main production kitchen, an individual stoves training kitchen, grand ballroom for functions, formal dining room, functioning international hotel standard reception area, practical demonstration bar and a courtyard café.

The College also provides accommodation for students including all meals, in a multicultural, safe, friendly and respectful environment.

The campus has its own tennis and basketball court, ovals and extensive jogging tracks.

In association with its’ strategic partner Macquarie University, Sydney, the College offers degree, diploma and master level programs tailored to meet the demands of the dynamic global business industry. All ICMS diploma programs are delivered over two years and reflect the need for future managers to have an equal understanding of management theory and the increasingly essential “hands-on” skill and applied knowledge. Each academic year consists of two terms of tuition on campus and two terms of Industry Training at one of our many industry partners. Diploma students have the option to continue on for one further year of academic study to obtain a bachelor degree.

Bachelor of Business Degrees

  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Property Services Management

  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management
  • Bachelor of Business Administration in International Tourism
  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Event Management

The 3-year Bachelor of Business degrees are offered in association with Macquarie University, widely regarded as the most innovative Sydney's leading university. Programs are designed to equip students with the strategic managerial, practical and human resource skills necessary to succeed at the highest level.

Master Degrees

  • Master of International Business (MIB)
  • Master of Commerce in Business (MCom)

Also offered in conjunction with Macquarie University (MU), the MIB and MCom are modern business degrees with a global outlook. They provide the opportunity to acquire contemporary knowledge and skills in core business disciplines incorporating an international focus. Studies are undertaken in finance, accounting, marketing and economics together with electives chosen from a range of business disciplines. This program is fully available on the ICMS campus in Manly however some units can be taken at MU.

  • Master of Management (Hospitality and Tourism Management)

The Master of Management is a specialised Masters level program allowing students to focus on a particular field of management Hospitality and Tourism) in contrast to a more generalist MBA.

Combining the expertise of Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM), Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) and ICMS the Hospitality and Tourism specialisation provides strong management skills and strategies for industry professionals. The program adopts a strategic approach and blends industry specific units with core management units to maximize the benefits to students.

The College Advisory Board

The College Advisory Board advises on curriculum and program development including relevant changes in skill applications, emerging trends and changes in relevant practices and standards. The College Advisory Board is composed of educational experts from professional and academic institutions.

To monitor changes and developments in the tourism and hospitality fields and propose how these trends could be integrated into future educational programs at the ICMS. The College Advisory Board is also composed of experts from the tourism and hospitality industry, commerce and business.

Industry Involvement

The College has strong and close relations with the industry at all levels, both domestically and internationally. The Industry Advisory Board meets quarterly to review new and revised programs, and to identify trends and training needs for potential inclusion in new or existing programs.

Industry training is a carefully structured and supervised component of the students' curriculum. The College has a 100% success rate in placing students for their 38-week industry work component. On graduation, students are invited to apply for further paid international industry training in the USA for periods from six to eighteen months. The College also has a 100% success rate in placing these graduates.

Industry Participation

Lectures by visiting industry experts and site visits are a normal part of the student training program. The College also has its own events to provide students with real life hands-on experience, and actively seeks the participation of its students in supplying services at external events.

Each year the College hosts The Cardinal Moran Oration, an event which is always fully patronised and has featured as speakers Sir Christopher Chataway, Sir Edward Hillary, General Eva Burrows and Dr Alan Gale.

Students have been involved in catering at the Greg Norman Golf Classic, in association with the Park Hyatt, and assisted at large scale banqueting events held at Stadium Australia by Sodexho.

The Faculty

The College Diploma program is part of the HOTELCONSULT "César Ritz" association of colleges, with sister schools in Switzerland and the USA. College staff attend annual meetings where the curriculum is reviewed and ideas shared on trends in hospitality education.

The teaching staff represent the benefits of a stringent and comprehensive selection process, balancing academic excellence with the practical skills and knowledge of experts drawn from the hospitality and related businesses.

Their objective is to provide students with ranging managerial skills, supported by a sound theoretical base.

The multi-cultural staff brings influences from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Spain, United States of America and Bangladesh.

The Bachelor of Business, Hospitality and Tourism program is offered in association with Macquarie University, widely regarded as the most innovative and progressive of Sydney's leading universities.
